Tips for Developing Your Colleagues

July 2024

In early July I put a short poll out to my network on LinkedIn asking for business leaders, talent professionals, and anyone dealing with HR to complete.

I asked them what elements of Talent do they wish would become simpler for them.

Here are the results:

Recruitment: 38%

Gathering my team’s feedback: 0%

Developing my team: 38%

Deciding on Talent strategy: 25%

Other: 0%

Following this I decided to address the two winners of this poll, starting with ‘developing my team’.

There’s a lot of ways to approach this, and each one is an article in its own right. Very often, the right thing to focus on depends largely on that specific team; the management’s leadership style, the existing culture, the industry, the average tenure of the colleague base, the current training materials being used, the amount of funding available, to name a few factors.

To make my response as relevant to a broad audience as possible, I pulled together tried and tested models and key considerations that will work with most teams and that all leaders should consider, regardless of their specifics. This short infographic was the result:

Still, there’s a lot of room to explore each of these topics, what they really mean for your team, how to roll them out successfully, how to embed it in the day-to-day. If you’re a leader wanting to learn more about one of these elements I’ll offer the same as I did for my LinkedIn network, message me with your thoughts, and let’s have a call where we can explore what will work best for your business and how you can implement it!
